środa, czerwiec 4th, 2008

(born Oct. 19, 1882, Reggio di Calabria, Italy—died Aug. 16, 1916, Verona) Italian painter, sculptor, and theorist. He was trained in the studio of Giacomo Balla (1871–1958) in Rome. The most energetic member of the Futurist group ( Futurism), Boccioni helped publish Technical Manifesto of the Futurist Painters (1910), promoting the representation of modern technology, power, time, motion, and speed. These ideas are best shown in his masterpiece of early modern sculpture, Unique Forms of Continuity in Space (1913). His painting The City Rises (1910) is a dynamic composition of swirling human figures in a fragmented crowd scene.

Bob Uecker Biography (1935 -)

środa, czerwiec 4th, 2008
Baseball player, sportscaster, comedian, actor. Born Robert George Uecker on January 26, 1935 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. An aspiring athlete, Bob Uecker was a huge fan of minor league baseball as a kid. In 1956, he signed with the Milwaukee Braves where he played catcher. Uecker, who later poked fun at his undistinguished playing career, did stints with the St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies before returning to the Braves in Atlanta. He retired from the league in 1967.

In 1970, Uecker reinvented himself as a sportscaster covering his hometown Milwaukee Brewers. A talented on-air personality, he also appeared in televised games, providing running commentary in the 1970s for ABC’s Monday Night Baseball and in the 1990s for NBC. He also hosted two syndicated shows, Bob Uecker’s Wacky World of Sports and Bob Uecker’s War of the Stars. His humor and charisma endeared him to sports fans of all ages, and he became much more famous as a commentator than he ever was as a player.

Bob Uecker also launched an acting career and had a successful run as George Owens on the sitcom Mr. Belvedere in the 1980s. He is also known for his part as one of the Miller Lite All-Stars in the company’s popular beer commercials. He has published two books, an autobiography entitled Catcher in the Wry and Catch 222.

(born Nov. 12, 1817, Tehrn, Iran—died May 29, 1872, Acre, Palestine) Iranian religious leader, founder of the Bah‘ faith. A Sh‘ite Muslim who allied himself with the Bb, he joined his half brother Mrz Yay (known as ob-e Azal) in leading the Bb movement after the Bb’s execution. Sunnite Muslims exiled him to Baghdad, Kurdistan, and finally Constantinople, where in 1867 he declared himself the imam-mahdi foretold by the Bb and sent by God. This pronouncement split Bbism into two factions, with a small group (the Azal) adhering to its original beliefs and a larger group following him into what became the Bah faith. The Ottoman government banished him to Acre where, as Bah‘ Ullh, he developed Bah into a teaching that advocated the unity of all religions and universal human brotherhood.
